Revelstoke Wines is a specialist direct wine merchant. Established in 1999 by managing director Richard Household, the company has built its success on a reputation for quality wines and professional service.

Although they had had their website redesigned they were finding it increasingly difficult to keep their website current and up to date and they wanted to find a way to make this process easier. In addition they wanted to keep a central database of tasting notes for both their own use when running wine tastings and for their customers information when choosing wines.

Bristol Software Partners suggested a central database which drives both the website and the printed version of their price list and tasting notes. It also creates price lists for their handheld pocket PC's which their salesteam uses when visiting clients. Furthermore the old site had been designed using frames and was not getting good ratings on Google. The new site was designed to be easily spidered by search engines so that searches for individual wines on their list would give good results on Google searches.

Richard Household says "Producing a new price list used to take us a long time and we only did it twice a year - now whenever we add a new wine to our database or change a price not only does our website automatically update but so does our price list. Furthermore when we need a tasting note for a wine we can just print it off at the click of a button."

Bristol Software Partners took the exisiting data from an Excel spreadsheet and transferred it to a Mysql database for Revelstoke. The new website is driven by this Mysql database. They then automated the production of the pdf pricelists using php and pdflib. They advised a new webhosting company which was not only considerably cheaper than the previous one but also provided more functionality.

Richard said "The new website is great but what has really made a difference is the way Bristol Software Partners understood how we use the system in the office"
